| Flight details: | Started off driving to High and Over for the forecast easterly winds, but stopped at Caburn, on seeing lots of people there. Climbed the hill to find the wind going around to the south-east. Lots of convergence clouds around - if we could only get into them, then we could stay up for ever, and go far. It never happened, and we all flew down, me delaying the process for 5 minutes in scrappy lift. Off to High and Over it was, arriving just as everyone else was packing up to go to Caburn. As I arrived, the wind switched to East, and I took off to nice conditions. Nice for H&O, that is, known as nasty and vicious anywhere else. :0) Tefal phoned me up just as I was 300 feet over takeoff, to inform me not to bother going to H&O, as it wasn't flyable. Oops!
He re-appeared just as I was in the air again, with RCN. We both started to go up, and started drifting over the back. You could see the panic in Tefal's eyes from 1,000 feet above as he took off to chase us. Round and round we go, until suddenly, we're over Seaford, then Newhaven, still going up, in the lightest of lift, and quite a bit of sink in between. What the hell, let's see what happens... Tefal has now climbed out, and is doing a low-level suicide glide along The Comp, behind H&O. What, no 3,000 feet clearance? :0) One has to admire the man - not for him the attractions of 18p baked beans at ASDA, no sirree, he is determined to get the two-for-one offer at Sainsbury's for three times the price, in Newhaven. Definitely a different class of pilot. As he glides in to the field in front of Sainsburys, I glide off to the other side of Newhaven, where loads of seagulls take the p*ss by flying in circles just below me, in sink. I end up in a patch of clear ground 'New semi-retirement homes with views', which turns out to have Europe's tallest weeds in it. A No 12 bus and a helpful driver get me back to H&O in time for some more pleasant flying, and some of the usual rough stuff.
