Title: Aonach Beag on Tuesday
Site:Other
Pilot:Andrew Craig
Date of flight:13th May 2008
Wing type:Paraglider
Flight details:
Forecast light and E. Took the Nevis Range gondola up to 650m, then hiked up to the summit of Aonach Mor (1200m odd). Wind light on the huge summit plateau, S when thermals came through. So hiked down to col and up to Aonach Beag, then on to S slope. Wind was E to NE, with quite strong gusts. Bugger! But waited for a SE thermal and got off quite easily, and up a few hundred feet. Rough. Over past Carn Mor Dearg arrete and on to shoulder of Ben Nevis. Scared of rotor -- probably wrongly, as prevailing wind was so light -- in Carn Dearg bowl, so fled into Glen Nevis and back down to land by campsite. 7km -- could have glided on to Fort William for 10km. Wished afterwards that I'd been a bit bolder, got in close to slope and up over Ben Nevis. Mind you, the repeated Tornado flights up the glen were a little worrying...
