Flight details: | Last-minute decision to go to Westbury, as conditions further east and south looked poor. The further west and north you were prepared to go, the better it looked; but we didn't want to drive more than a few hours. What was possible was also limited by a numbers of factors: the wind strength (too windy for circuit flights); airspace restrictions; additional notams (Fairford Royal International Air Tattoo; Farnborough International Airshow); and, last but not least, the sea. So we decided set a goal at Swanage. I very nearly landed about 15km from launch, getting down to about 100ft AGL. I then scrabbled for the next 4km until I finally got a decent climb, whereupon I was joined by Emile van Wyk and Guy Anderson. Nancy and Tim Pentreath had their own low save beneath us, and I thought we might all join up but t'was not to be. Emile and Guy headed west. Unfortunately Nancy and Tim took a long glide to the ground. So I carried on towards Swanage all on my swanny. As I passed Blanford Forum the sea breeze seemed to be coming in from the SE, S and SW creating a complicated web a sea breeze fronts - and some spectacular looking clouds! I got the highest I got all flight in the sea breeze front convergence near Wareham, from where I more or less took a 15+ km glide to Swanage. I then hitched back to near Poole where I waited a short while for the Flybubble van to collect me. What a great day!
