Flight details:
Launched at 11:30 into a reasonably crowded sky. Went over the back to the next valley (near Treorchy and near wind turbines), met up with Simon Steel, then after ridge soaring and thermal hunting for ages we climbed out to the next valley (near Maerdy). After ridge soaring and thermal hunting for what seemed like ages we climbed out and headed for the next valley... (hmm.... there seems to be a pattern emerging here). All the thermals low down were really snotty, rough and broken and difficult to work. Up high they seemed to consolidate quite nicely. At 3600 feet over the next (third?) valley we heard an ice cream van very clearly which seemed quite odd! A couple of climbs later we started our decent towards Abergavenny. Having passed the town and retracing our steps I was getting what I thought was going to be a low save as I 180ed over metal roofed buildings near the meadow in Abergavenny but it was not to be. Landed near Simon then we celebrated with a pint at the Bridge Inn. Many thanks to John Turczak for the timely retrieve all the way back to Nant-Y-Moel!
