Flight details
Title: Jolly to Saltdean, dodgy pack up
Site:Devils Dyke
Pilot:Alison Webb
Date of flight:14th May 2014
Wing type:Paraglider
Flight details:
Launched after the wind had strengthened so knew I would cross Brighton and approach the coast before long. There was no discernible seabreeze front so I had to leave my climb before base in order to avoid the risk of being blown out to sea. Pushed inland and connected with wispy lift which took me northeast of the marina. Carried on East and had last lift just past Woodingdean.
Landed in a huge green cornfield at the rear of Saltdean and walked East down the hill and out of sight to pack up. A few minutes later I heard the noise of approaching machinery and then a very strong smell of chemicals.
I could then see a huge tractor with a wide spreader bar in front spraying pesticides/fungicides. Because I was in a dip and the corn was waist high the driver had not seen me. I finished packing up and mercifully the tractor went further down into the valley and I was able to escape.
