Flight details:
I'm determined that this is the year for me to consistently cover some kms so with that in mind I went to Pandy for the first round of the 2014 BCC season. The forecast was good so I drove over early the day before, and boy was that a good decision.
Pandy is a long ridge but, surprisingly, pilots trying to soar were struggling. It does seem a fantastic thermal site though. Climbs were everywhere and they all seemed quite sharp edged but the bus I drive around the sky just seems to take them all in its stride.
Most pilots were getting high and dashing downwind but I've never been one to follow the crowd. Progress into wind was slow (13km in 1:30hrs) but it was such great practice at mapping thermals. I was so excited to see a beautiful bird of prey that I followed it. It lied and I ended up in a field, but what an adventure. Ok, I didn't see the telephone wire until the last second and i had to dump my wing in a hedge to get down without taking it out, but it was worth it. It was even worth the 3 hour hike back - who would have thought that all the cars that went past me would be MX5s with both seats occupied?
