Title: First time at Newhaven
Site:Newhaven Cliffs
Pilot:James Hope-Lang
Date of flight:5th April 2014
Wing type:Paraglider
Flight details:
Went to Caburn early and got in a handful of flights before 8:30 when some more pilots turned up. Then headed for Newhaven purely to take a look as had never flown there before and was cautious of a new wing. Conditions were stunning with 3 of the Fly Sussex tandems in action, a dozen paragliders and several hangies. After a site briefing (thanks Ed!) decided to go for it and explore the ridge up to the Peacehaven point. However conditions were so good and I was in experienced company so struck out for the marina. Took my time getting there have to get used to being generally less than 200ft up and often as low as 60ft! However once I'd realised my glide angle would clear the bigger gaps I settled back to enjoy the ride and the view. On the return leg I pushed a bit harder and managed to keep up with Ed most of the way, though made mistake of not washing my height off on approach to the beach and had to S my height off whilst trying to stay out the water! Just a stunning day at the cliffs!
