Flight details: | Took off soon after the wind picked up and spent an hour in spring thermals around the bowl and river. Drifted back with Andrew Craig in a hopeful bubble, but it weakened and I headed back , just scraping over the southern launch. After a while got a better solid climb and took it to 1800ft, then heaeded for Newhaven in a promising-looking sky. I wanted to try the SFoF leg to Newhaven Cliffs, and got a small climb to the east of Newhaven to get me across the river and over the coastguard tower. Then picked up a good thermal from the houses to the west of the launch and was up to about 1400ft, drifting nicely towards Brighton with Cu ahead. At Rottingdean there was a bit of a blue hole, and I did not have quite enough height to head for the high ground to the north, so landed by the windmill. Got a 12 bus (forgot my bus pass!)to the Golden Galleon and walked back to High & Over where the day had come to a windy end. |
