| Flight details: | John T and I rocked up at Combe Gibbett at 09:30 to find ourselves the only PG's there as everyone else had gone to Liddy or Selsey. By time we took off there were maybe 10 others in total and it remained that way all day. Low down the thermals were bitty and hardwork to find. Once you got over 1500ft things got a little easier. After lots of scratching at ridge height I finally got a decent climb but by then John had got fed up waiting for me and had slope landed. I converged with Viv Fouracre and we spun our way up eventually to 3000'. After that though we got serious sink and quickly hit the deck.
After studying the XC Retrieve map later it looked like regardless of where you started that day most people were landing within 10km of Combe - so something in the milky cirrus was preventing people going further...
Lovely day, and John got us back to the hill for another attempt when he got away and I came back to manage the retrieve instead but I'll let him tell you that story... |
