“Meet the Coaches”

Location Update: *** CABURN PROPOSED ***

With this month’s coaching meeting we’ll be doing something a little different!

The event will be held Tomorrow, Saturday, 27th of June and NOT the regular Thursday slot.

As the heading says, this is your chance to “Meet the Coaches” but that’s not all.
Neil Brennan-Wright will be laying on a BBQ so don’t forget the Food and Drink (we’re not that generous!) and don’t worry about the calories, you can burn them off in our “Spot Landing Comp & Ground Handling Workshop”.

Weather permitting, I can confirm Caburn will be the venue for this Special Outdoor Club Meeting but please check Airworks on 01273 858108 and/or the SHGC Website in case Mother Nature has other ideas.

So Make-a-Date,

Saturday 27th June 2009
!! Be There or Be Square !!

Meet a Coach

As I stood on a deserted Mount Caburn last night at 7.15pm - a lovely summer's evening in a SW wind about 8-10mph - I thought "wouldn't it be really good to have a coach right now".

Which led me to think - if I started a discussion a couple of days before a specific day and time when the forecast was looking good for beginner flying, then other beginners and coaches could home into the same activity.

For example, at this moment the winds are a bit West and bit strong tomorrow, but Tuesday looks like a good beginner day at Caburn. I am free all day, so tomorrow and even Tuesday morning I can make a better assessment of the optimum time to go.

Any thoughts?

(PS. Forgive me for not contacting you by phone as offered, Rob (Smurfette), but my thinking/ arranging speed is slow typing not fast talking...)

Meet a Coach

Dear James

While you have been ground handling at Telscombe, other total beginners have been persuing a weird hobby of theirs called 'flying paragliders'. There were lots of them at Caburn, *all day* yesterday, and *all afternoon* today. May I suggest you join them? There were several (at least 5, possibly as many as 10!) coaches up there too. All of them would have helped you off the hill, and given you as much advice as you could handle. None of them as far as I know, bite; they are quite friendly.

However, word on the hill is that 'James from Saltdean' is a figment of someone's imagination, because nobody has actually seen you actually fly. It's as if you don't want to.

How about you meet the coaches half way, ie during the time that they are out flying? Why are you going up the hill at 7:30pm, after the action has finished? We were all in the pub by then.

The drama..

Why puncture the understated comedy of james_from_saltdean with reality? I personally am prepared to suspend disbelief in return for another installment of 'The Trials of Telscombe'.

Along with Smurf & Smurfette role-playing some prison scenario the SHGC is exposing nuances of theatre i never before imagined possible.

(or perhaps i should just pay my TV licence and hook up to Channel 5 again)

The Bitch

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smurfette

"Smurfette has more delicate features than the other Smurfs, with long blonde wavy hair, longer eyelashes, and wears a white dress and white high heels."

I assume that the moniker 'Smurfette' is the first step in you coming out as a cross-dresser? I look forward to seeing you dressed up appropriately next flyable day at the Dyke. We need more women in this club. I feel that the white heels may not survive a hard landing, though. Maybe some of these might be more sensible?

Monikers

Who said I couldn't lose the Logical moniker?

What's in a name?

Strange though that it seems to be you that comes up with your own nicknames?

I think that other people usually come up with a nickname for you. If you're lucky then it's your friends, and it's a nice name!

What's wrong with Rob or Robbie anyway?

Thanks for the lift the other day though, whatever you choose to call yourself!

What's in a name?

It was sort of a lost joke but I won't go into it since I'm banned from talking about the NT (Oh Crap!)
Besides, I liked the picture but point taken, I'l stop confusing everyone and stick to Robbie.

Can I keep the pic though since I've been reliably informed my mugshot made me look like a 'crim'
Smurfette looks much better than me!

As for the lift, your welcome, anytime.

Robbie

Full Face...

Rob,

In the run up to *meet the coaches* I did think it would be a good idea for you (and any other coaches) to follow the website guidance :0) and post a photo.

If you are worried about your appearance you could wear your full-face visor, sunglasses, wrap around scarf, etc.
