Himalayan Spring

BOOK NOW, this trip will fill up quickly!

Eddie Colfox from Himalayan Sky Safaris and Steve Purdie from Airworks, two of the most experienced Himalayan paragliding guides, have teamed up to present you with the opportunity to join this exploratory paragliding expedition to Pithoragarh, Trisul and perhaps even Nanda Devi National Park.

This Spring we will be exploring the potential of early season flying in this newly discovered cross country paradise in both the green and luscious Indian Himalayan foothills and the snow-capped mountains of the Himalaya

Dates: 1/3/18 – 17/3/18

We will be operating at incredibly tight student/guide ratios with 3:1 being the norm and 1:1 also available. Some of the many benefits of our very high guide to student ratio are that we can ensure the best possible experience for all levels of pilot, as effectively your flights can be almost bespoke to your experience and the conditions: For the low airtime pilot you can expect to become a competent XC pilot, able to identify and use thermal lift to cover serious distances and then land safely in a field of your choosing, often the main landing field. You should also hope to achieve some incredible high altitude top to bottom flights. Look upon out-landings as an opportunity to meet new friends and have an amazing travel experience and you won't go far wrong. For the more experienced pilot who can already thermal well and is seeking some quality instruction in the awesome scenery of this soon to be classic XC paradise, we'll be aiming to improve your skills by guided XC flying every day with the possibility of the occasional vol-bivouac. If permission is forthcoming we may even get to fly some of the more dramatic routes in the nearby Nanda Devi National Park's Trisul range. See Leomann map sheet 8.

Non-flying activities include visits to ancient temples & holy sites and fantastic trekking & mountaineering opportunities. See http://pithoragarh.nic.in

What's included:

The price covers ten days of air-to-air guidance during the tour as rest days sometimes become a longed for necessity. However in reality some guidance generally happens every day.

Board and lodging costs are not included but we are happy to make the necessary arrangements for you if you give us an idea of budget. We will be based in a variety of accommodation during the trip and plan to vol-bivouac on occasion. Because we tend to be flying all day lunch doesn’t normally happen - we go somewhere for a chai, snack and a debrief after we land.

The transport costs to launch are included but the cost of any unplanned retrieves are not included in the price. They are unlikely, but if they do occur, even though landing in the wrong valley over the back can add several hours onto a retrieve, they are not that expensive.

Transport:

We will be flying Air India from Heathrow to Delhi then, if the numbers permit, chartering an aircraft for a local flight to Pithoragarh, otherwise we will drive there. Costs from Delhi to Pithoragarh are to be shared by expedition members.

If you are not local to Heathrow, you could take flights that bracket ours and meet us at one of the Indian airports.

I strongly recommend you source your international flights and transit hotel if required through Angie at Experience Holidays, aw@experienceholidays.co.uk, who has provided sterling service in the past! It may cost a few pounds more than booking direct, but trust me, it helps immensely to have an agent when dealing with India. The following international flight is coming in at £533 at present. Please don't search for the flight until you plan to book it or the price will sneak up...

  • Depart Heathrow on AI112 Thu, 01 Mar Depart London (LHR) 21:30 for Delhi, overnight at the airport then fly to Pithoragarh.

  • Depart Pithoragarh for Delhi, to catch AI111 Sat, 17 Mar Depart Delhi (DEL) 14:45 Arrive London (LHR) 18:55.

For this pioneering trip the cost is being held down to an incredible £999. We would normally expect this trip to be £1350. Flights, meals & accommodation are not included. You should budget about £20/day for food and accommodation, £500 for the international flights and £200 for the internal flights. One-to-one guiding can be provided by arrangement and we have a considerable array of experienced Himalayan guides to choose from. If this interests you please get in touch as soon as possible so we can gauge your requirements and book an appropriate guide.

Please make a non-refundable deposit payment of £300 to AIRTRIPS as soon as possible. The balance will fall due on January 25th. Bank transfers (reference InSp followed by your name) can be made to:
